¾ cup all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
½ teaspoon salt
1 large egg
¾ cup buttermilk
6 hot dogs, cut into bite-sized pieces
Oil, for frying
Instructions
1. Cut hot dogs into 1 to 2-inch pieces and pat them dry with a paper towel.
2. In a medium bowl, whisk together cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
3. In a separate bowl, beat the egg and mix in the buttermilk.
4. Combine wet and dry ingredients, stirring until smooth.
5. Heat 2 inches of oil in a deep pot to 350°F (175°C).
6. Dip each hot dog piece into the batter, coating it completely.
7. Fry in small batches for 2–3 minutes until golden brown.
8. Remove and drain on a paper towel-lined plate.
9. Serve warm with your favorite dipping sauces.
Notes
For extra crispiness, drain on a wire rack instead of paper towels.
You can freeze leftovers and reheat in an air fryer to retain texture.
Try mini sausages or turkey hot dogs for a fun twist on the classic.
