Description

Crispy Honey Garlic Tofu is a quick breakfast-for-later meal prep favorite, easy dinner, healthy snack, and one of those flavorful food ideas that turns simple tofu into a crispy, sticky, sweet-savory dish you will want on repeat. This easy recipe is perfect for weeknight dinner ideas, lunch bowls, and better-for-you takeout cravings, with golden tofu bites tossed in a glossy honey garlic sauce and served over rice or vegetables.

Ingredients

Scale

14 ounces extra-firm tofu

3 tablespoons cornstarch

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon black pepper

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

3 tablespoons neutral oil

1/4 cup honey

4 cloves garlic, minced

3 tablespoons soy sauce

1 tablespoon rice vinegar

1 teaspoon sesame oil

1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes

2 tablespoons green onions, sliced

1 teaspoon sesame seeds

3 cups cooked rice for serving

Instructions

1. Press the tofu for 20 to 30 minutes, then cut it into bite-sized cubes.

2. Toss the tofu with cornstarch, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder until coated.

3. Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high heat and cook the tofu until golden and crispy on all sides, about 8 to 10 minutes. Remove and set aside.

4. In the same skillet, add the minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds.

5. Stir in honey, soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, and red pepper flakes. Simmer for 1 to 2 minutes.

6. Return the tofu to the skillet and toss until evenly coated and glossy.

7. Garnish with green onions and sesame seeds, then serve over cooked rice.

Notes

Pressing the tofu well is the best way to get a crisp texture.

Do not overcrowd the skillet or the tofu will steam instead of brown.

For a vegan version, replace honey with maple syrup or agave.
