Description

Crispy Asparagus Asiago Spears are a quick appetizer, easy side dish, and one of those food ideas that make vegetables feel exciting. Tender asparagus spears are coated in a crunchy breadcrumb and Asiago cheese crust, then baked until golden and crisp for an easy recipe that works for dinner ideas, holiday sides, party snacks, and quick lunch or dinner additions.

Ingredients

Scale

1 pound asparagus, trimmed

1/2 cup all-purpose flour

2 large eggs

1 tablespoon water

1 cup panko breadcrumbs

3/4 cup grated Asiago cheese

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon black pepper

2 tablespoons olive oil

1 lemon, cut into wedges

Instructions

1. Preheat the oven to 425°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

2. Wash the asparagus, pat it dry, and trim off the tough ends.

3. Place the flour in one shallow bowl.

4. In a second bowl, whisk together the eggs and water.

5. In a third bowl, mix the panko breadcrumbs, grated Asiago cheese, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper.

6. Dip each asparagus spear into the flour, then into the egg mixture, and finally into the breadcrumb mixture, pressing gently so the coating sticks.

7. Arrange the coated spears in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet.

8. Drizzle or lightly spray the asparagus with olive oil.

9. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes, or until the coating is golden and the asparagus is tender.

10. Serve hot with lemon wedges on the side.

Notes

Use medium-thick asparagus spears for the best balance of crisp coating and tender center.

Panko breadcrumbs give the crunchiest texture, but regular breadcrumbs can be used if needed.

Reheat leftovers in the oven or air fryer to keep the coating crisp.
