Description

Classic Cannoli Squares are a fun, elegant twist on the traditional Italian cannoli. These delightful treats feature layers of golden puff pastry filled with a creamy ricotta mixture, chocolate chips, and crushed pistachios. They’re perfect for parties, holidays, or whenever you’re craving something sweet and impressive.


Ingredients

2 sheets puff pastry, thawed

1 ½ cups whole milk ricotta cheese, well-drained

1 cup powdered sugar

½ cup heavy cream

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

½ cup mini chocolate chips

¼ cup crushed pistachios

Additional powdered sugar, for dusting


Instructions

1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).

2. Unfold puff pastry sheets and cut into even squares.

3. Place squares on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Prick each with a fork.

4. Bake for 12–15 minutes or until golden and crisp. Let cool completely.

5. In a bowl, mix ricotta, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth.

6. In a separate bowl, whip heavy cream until stiff peaks form.

7. Gently fold whipped cream into ricotta mixture.

8. Stir in mini chocolate chips.

9. Spoon or pipe filling onto half the pastry squares.

10. Top with remaining pastry squares to create sandwiches.

11. Dust with powdered sugar and sprinkle with crushed pistachios.

12. Chill for at least 30 minutes before serving.


Notes

Be sure to drain ricotta well to prevent a runny filling.

For best crunch, assemble shortly before serving.

Try adding a hint of orange zest for a citrusy twist.
