Description

These Christmas Crinkle Cookies are a festive easy recipe perfect for holiday baking, cookie exchanges, dessert tables, and fun food ideas for the season. With soft buttery centers, bright red and green colors, and a snowy powdered sugar coating, they are one of the best Christmas dessert ideas when you want a quick holiday treat that looks beautiful and tastes even better.

Ingredients

Scale

1 cup unsalted butter, softened

1 1/2 cups granulated sugar

4 large eggs

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

2 teaspoons baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

red food coloring

green food coloring

1 cup powdered sugar

Instructions

1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and line baking sheets with parchment paper.

2. In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.

3. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then mix in the vanilla extract.

4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.

5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture and mix until a soft dough forms.

6. Divide the dough evenly into two bowls. Tint one bowl red and the other green, mixing until the color is fully blended.

7. Cover and chill the dough for 1 to 2 hours until firm enough to scoop.

8. Scoop the dough into tablespoon-sized balls and roll each one generously in powdered sugar.

9. Place the dough balls on the prepared baking sheets about 2 inches apart.

10. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, or until the cookies are puffed and crackled on top.

11. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

Use a heavy coating of powdered sugar for the best crinkle effect.

Chill the dough well so the cookies keep their shape while baking.

Do not overbake or the cookies may lose their soft center.
