Description

These Thai Basil Beef Rolls are a refreshing blend of savory marinated beef, fresh herbs, and crisp vegetables, all wrapped in soft rice paper and served with a flavorful soy-garlic dipping sauce. Perfect for a light lunch, appetizer, or dinner party spread, these handheld bites combine Thai street-food vibes with kitchen-friendly simplicity.

Ingredients

Scale

1 lb flank steak or sirloin, thinly sliced

1 cup Thai basil leaves

10 rice paper wrappers

3 cloves garlic, minced

1 shallot, minced

3 tablespoons soy sauce

1 tablespoon fish sauce

1 tablespoon brown sugar

1 teaspoon red chili flakes (or 1 small Thai chili, sliced)

1 carrot, cut into matchsticks

1 cucumber, cut into matchsticks

2 green onions, chopped

1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped

1 tablespoon lime juice

1 teaspoon sesame oil (optional)

For Dipping Sauce:

2 tablespoons soy sauce

1 tablespoon fish sauce

1 tablespoon lime juice

1 clove garlic, minced

1/2 teaspoon sugar

Pinch of chili flakes

Instructions

1. Slice flank or sirloin thinly across the grain. In a bowl, combine soy sauce, fish sauce, minced garlic, shallot, brown sugar, and chili flakes. Marinate beef for 20–30 minutes.

2. Heat a skillet with a bit of oil. Stir-fry beef until browned and cooked through, about 3–4 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.

3. Prep fresh ingredients: cut carrot and cucumber into matchsticks, chop cilantro and green onions, and wash basil leaves.

4. Fill a shallow dish with warm water. Dip each rice paper wrapper for 8–10 seconds until soft but still slightly firm.

5. On a clean surface, place basil, beef, veggies, and herbs in center of wrapper. Fold sides in, then roll tightly like a burrito.

6. In a small bowl, mix all dipping sauce ingredients and stir well.

7. Slice rolls in half if desired, and serve with dipping sauce. Sprinkle with sesame seeds or extra herbs.

Notes

For easier slicing, freeze beef for 10–15 minutes before cutting.

Don’t over-soak rice paper—it should be soft but manageable.

Let rolls rest seam-side down for a minute to help them seal before serving.
