Ingredients
2 cups cold whole milk
1 package (3.4 oz) instant vanilla pudding mix
2 cups whipped topping or whipped cream
4 ripe bananas, sliced
2 cups fresh strawberries, sliced
1 box vanilla wafers
8 oz cream cheese, softened (optional)
2 tablespoons powdered sugar (optional)
1⁄4 cup crushed vanilla wafers or shortbread (for topping)
Instructions
1. In a mixing bowl, whisk together vanilla pudding mix and cold milk until thickened. Chill for 5 minutes.
2. Slice the bananas and strawberries. Pat strawberries dry if very juicy.
3. If using homemade whipped cream, beat heavy cream with powdered sugar until soft peaks form. For extra richness, blend in cream cheese.
4. Layer vanilla wafers in the bottom of a trifle dish or glass container.
5. Add a layer of pudding, then sliced fruit, then whipped topping.
6. Repeat layers until the dish is full.
7. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.
8. Just before serving, garnish with extra fruit and crushed wafers.
Notes
For a firmer texture, blend softened cream cheese into the whipped topping layer.
Brush banana slices lightly with lemon juice to prevent browning.
For gluten-free version, use certified gluten-free vanilla wafers and double-check your pudding mix.
