Description
This Salisbury steak recipe is a hearty, classic comfort food featuring juicy ground beef patties simmered in a rich onion gravy. Served over mashed potatoes or noodles, it’s a cozy and satisfying dish perfect for family dinners or weeknight meals.
Ingredients
1 pound ground beef
1/2 cup breadcrumbs
1 large egg
1 small onion, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
2 tablespoons butter
1 tablespoon flour
1 1/2 cups beef broth
1 medium onion, sliced (for gravy)
1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped (optional)
Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
1. In a bowl, mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, chopped onion, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper until just combined. Shape into oval patties.
2. Heat 1 tablespoon butter in a skillet over medium-high heat. Sear patties for 3–4 minutes per side until browned. Remove and set aside.
3. In the same skillet, melt remaining butter and add sliced onion. Sauté for 5–7 minutes until golden.
4. Sprinkle flour over onions and stir. Cook for 1–2 minutes. Gradually whisk in beef broth and add Worcestershire sauce. Simmer.
5. Return patties to skillet. Cover and simmer on low for 10–15 minutes, until fully cooked and gravy thickens.
6. Serve hot over mashed potatoes, noodles, or rice. Garnish with parsley if desired.
Notes
Don’t overmix the beef mixture—this helps keep the patties tender.
For extra flavor, chill the patties for 15 minutes before cooking.
If the gravy gets too thick, add a splash of beef broth to loosen it.
