Description

This Rustic Garlic Rosemary Skillet Bread is golden and crusty on the outside, soft and tender on the inside, and bursting with savory garlic and fresh rosemary flavor. No kneading required, it’s a beginner-friendly recipe that turns out bakery-quality bread right from your cast iron skillet.


Ingredients

Scale

3 cups all-purpose flour

2 teaspoons instant yeast

1 ½ cups warm water

2 tablespoons olive oil (plus extra for greasing and brushing)

4 cloves garlic, minced

1 tablespoon fresh rosemary, chopped

1 ½ teaspoons salt

2 tablespoons grated parmesan cheese (optional)


Instructions

1. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, instant yeast, salt, and warm water. Stir until a shaggy dough forms. Add olive oil and mix until fully combined.

2. Cover bowl with a towel or plastic wrap and let the dough rise for 1 to 1.5 hours until doubled in size.

3. Generously grease a cast iron skillet with olive oil. Transfer the dough into the skillet and gently spread it to the edges. Let rest 20–30 minutes.

4. Brush dough with olive oil. Sprinkle garlic, rosemary, and optional parmesan cheese over the top.

5. Bake at 400°F (200°C) for 25–30 minutes, until golden brown and a toothpick comes out clean.

6. Let cool for 10 minutes in the skillet before slicing. Serve warm.


Notes

For best texture, don’t overwork the dough after the first rise—handle it gently.

If you prefer a crispier top, broil the bread for the last 2 minutes, watching closely.

Swap rosemary for thyme or Italian seasoning for a fun twist.
