Description

Soft, bakery-style sugar cookies topped with fluffy pastel frosting and rainbow sprinkles. These Lofthouse-style treats are melt-in-your-mouth perfection for holidays or any sweet craving.


Ingredients

2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour

¼ cup cornstarch

1 tsp baking powder

½ tsp baking soda

½ tsp salt

¾ cup unsalted butter, softened

1 cup granulated sugar

2 large eggs

½ cup sour cream

2 tsp vanilla extract

Frosting:

¾ cup unsalted butter, softened

2 ½ cups powdered sugar

1 tsp vanilla extract

23 tbsp milk

Food coloring (optional)

Sprinkles for decorating


Instructions

  1. In a bowl, whisk together flour, cornstarch, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  2. In a large bowl, cream the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then mix in sour cream and vanilla extract.
  4. Slowly mix in the dry ingredients until just combined.
  5. Cover the dough and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
  6. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  7. Roll dough into balls, flatten slightly, and bake for 8–10 minutes. Do not overbake.
  8. Let cookies cool completely.
  9. For the frosting: Beat butter until creamy, then add powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla. Add food coloring if using.
  10. Frost cooled cookies and decorate with sprinkles.
