Description
This thick and zesty homemade pizza sauce is rich in flavor and made with simple pantry ingredients. It’s perfect for pizza night and also works great as a dipping sauce or quick pasta base. Make a big batch and freeze for easy, delicious dinners any time!
Ingredients
1 tablespoon olive oil
3 cloves garlic, minced
2 tablespoons tomato paste
1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
1 teaspoon sugar
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1 teaspoon dried basil
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
Instructions
1. In a medium saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat.
2. Add minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant.
3. Stir in oregano, basil, and red pepper flakes (if using) and cook for 30 seconds.
4. Mix in the tomato paste and cook for 2–3 minutes to develop deeper flavor.
5. Pour in crushed tomatoes and stir until fully combined.
6. Add sugar, salt, and black pepper.
7. Reduce heat and let simmer uncovered for 20–30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
8. For a smoother sauce, blend using an immersion blender or traditional blender (optional).
9. Allow the sauce to cool before storing or using on pizza.
10. Store in the fridge up to 1 week or freeze up to 3 months.
Notes
For extra flavor, roast your garlic beforehand for a sweet, mellow base.
Use San Marzano tomatoes if available for the best flavor.
Double the recipe and freeze in small containers for quick, future use.
