Description
A quick and cozy dinner made in under 30 minutes, this Ground Beef and Broccoli recipe is perfect for weeknights. Juicy beef and tender broccoli are tossed in a rich, garlicky sauce, then served over rice or noodles for the ultimate takeout-style comfort food at home.
Ingredients
1 pound ground beef
4 cups broccoli florets
1/3 cup soy sauce
2 tablespoons brown sugar
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 teaspoon fresh grated ginger
1 teaspoon sesame oil
1 tablespoon cornstarch
2 tablespoons water (for slurry)
3 cups cooked rice (optional, for serving)
Instructions
1. In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook the ground beef until browned and cooked through. Break it up as it cooks and drain excess grease if needed.
2. In a bowl, whisk together soy sauce, brown sugar, garlic, ginger, sesame oil, and a splash of water. In a separate small bowl, mix cornstarch with 2 tablespoons of water to make a slurry.
3. Add the sauce mixture to the cooked beef and stir well. Pour in the slurry and simmer for 2–3 minutes until the sauce thickens.
4. Meanwhile, steam or microwave the broccoli florets until tender-crisp, about 2–3 minutes.
5. Stir the broccoli into the skillet with the beef and coat well with sauce. Serve warm over rice, noodles, or in lettuce cups.
Notes
Don’t overcook the broccoli — you want it bright green and crisp-tender.
The sauce thickens quickly once the cornstarch slurry is added — stir constantly.
For a spicy twist, add a pinch of red pepper flakes or a swirl of sriracha.
