Description

This French Onion Ground Beef Rice Casserole is a cozy, one-pan dinner layered with rich caramelized onions, savory beef, tender rice, and a golden cheesy topping. It’s the perfect comfort food for family dinners, potlucks, or meal prep.

Ingredients

Scale

1 pound ground beef

1 cup long-grain white rice (uncooked)

1 can (10.5 oz) French onion soup

1 ½ cups beef broth

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

2 tablespoons butter

1 large onion, thinly sliced

1 ½ cups shredded cheddar cheese (or blend)

1 tablespoon chopped parsley (optional)

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).

2. In a large skillet, brown ground beef over medium heat. Drain excess grease.

3. Add butter and sliced onions to the same skillet. Sauté on medium-low until golden brown and soft.

4. Return beef to skillet. Add French onion soup, beef broth, and Worcestershire sauce. Stir and let simmer for 2–3 minutes.

5. Stir in uncooked rice until evenly coated.

6. Transfer mixture to a greased 9×13-inch baking dish. Cover tightly with foil.

7. Bake for 45–50 minutes or until rice is tender and liquid is absorbed.

8. Uncover, sprinkle cheese on top, and bake for another 5–10 minutes until cheese is melted.

9. Garnish with parsley if desired. Let rest before serving.

Notes

Pre-cook brown rice if using it as a substitute to ensure proper texture.

For extra creaminess, stir in a few tablespoons of sour cream before baking.

Avoid using quick or instant rice—long-grain white rice gives the best results.
