Ingredients

Ground beef (or a beef/pork mix)

Onion

Garlic

Carrots

Celery

Tomato paste

Crushed tomatoes

Whole milk or heavy cream

Red wine

Olive oil

Salt

Black pepper

Italian seasoning

Bay leaf (optional)


Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large pot. Add chopped onions, carrots, and celery. Sauté for 8-10 minutes.
  2. Add garlic and cook 1 minute.
  3. Add ground beef or beef/pork mix. Brown fully, breaking up meat.
  4. Pour in red wine. Simmer until mostly evaporated.
  5. Stir in tomato paste. Cook for 2 minutes.
  6. Add crushed tomatoes, bay leaf, and Italian seasoning. Mix well.
  7. Simmer uncovered on low for 1.5 to 2 hours, stirring occasionally.
  8. Stir in milk or cream during the last 15 minutes of cooking.
  9. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Serve over pasta.
