Description

This Best Easy Christmas Crack is a holiday classic made with layers of salty crackers, buttery toffee, and melty chocolate. It’s sweet, crunchy, and absolutely addictive. Perfect for gifting, cookie trays, or a quick no-fuss dessert.

Ingredients

Scale

40 saltine crackers

1 cup unsalted butter

1 cup brown sugar

2 cups semisweet chocolate chips

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon sea salt (optional)

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper or foil and spray with non-stick spray. Arrange saltine crackers in a single layer to fully cover the pan.

2. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt butter and brown sugar together. Stir continuously and bring the mixture to a boil. Let it bubble for 3 minutes while stirring constantly.

3. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract. Immediately pour the toffee mixture over the crackers and spread evenly with a spatula.

4. Bake in the oven for 5 minutes or until the toffee is bubbling over the crackers.

5. Remove from oven and sprinkle chocolate chips evenly on top. Let them sit for 1–2 minutes until softened, then spread the melted chocolate over the toffee layer.

6. Optional: Sprinkle with sea salt while the chocolate is still warm.

7. Allow to cool to room temperature, then chill in the refrigerator for 1–2 hours until fully set.

8. Once firm, break into pieces and serve or store.

Notes

Use parchment paper to prevent sticking—foil may tear and make cleanup harder.

Don’t skip the boiling time; 3 full minutes is key to setting the toffee properly.

For a fun twist, try topping with crushed candy canes, pretzels, or nuts before the chocolate sets.
