Description

Artisan Garlic Naan is soft, chewy, and richly flavored with garlic butter and herbs. It’s the perfect side to any cozy meal or a stunning base for wraps and dips. With golden charred spots and a pillowy texture, this skillet-made bread brings Indian-restaurant magic to your own kitchen—no tandoor required!

Ingredients

Scale

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon active dry yeast

1 teaspoon sugar

¾ cup warm water

¼ cup plain yogurt

1 tablespoon olive oil

½ teaspoon salt

3 garlic cloves, minced

2 tablespoons butter, melted

2 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro or parsley

Instructions

1. In a small bowl, mix warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit 5–10 minutes until frothy.

2. In a large bowl, combine flour, salt, yogurt, and olive oil. Add the yeast mixture and mix to form a sticky dough.

3. Knead the dough for 8–10 minutes on a floured surface until smooth.

4. Place dough in an oiled bowl, cover, and let it rise for 1–2 hours or until doubled in size.

5. Punch down dough, divide into 6–8 pieces, and roll each into a flat oval shape.

6. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Cook each naan 1–2 minutes per side until bubbles form and golden spots appear.

7. Mix melted butter with minced garlic. Brush each cooked naan immediately and sprinkle with chopped herbs.

Notes

For extra fluffy naan, don’t skip the rise time—it gives the dough its light texture.

Use a cast iron pan for best results; it helps mimic tandoor-style cooking.

Garlic can be sautéed in the butter before brushing if you prefer a milder taste.
