Description

Amish Broccoli Salad is a creamy, crunchy, and tangy side dish made with fresh broccoli, crispy bacon, shredded cheddar, and a sweet vinegar dressing. It’s easy to make, perfect for potlucks or summer BBQs, and can be made ahead to save time. Each bite delivers a satisfying mix of textures and bold flavors.

Ingredients

Scale

6 cups broccoli florets

8 slices thick-cut bacon, cooked and crumbled

1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese

1/3 cup finely chopped red onion

1/4 cup sunflower seeds (optional)

1 cup mayonnaise

2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar

2 tablespoons sugar

Instructions

1. Wash and chop the broccoli into small florets. Pat dry thoroughly.

2. Cook bacon in a skillet until crispy, then crumble once cooled.

3. In a small bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, apple cider vinegar, and sugar until smooth.

4. In a large mixing bowl, combine broccoli, red onion, sunflower seeds, and cheddar cheese.

5. Pour the dressing over the salad and toss until everything is evenly coated.

6. Gently fold in the bacon just before serving to keep it crispy.

7. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before serving.

Notes

For the crunchiest salad, dry your broccoli completely before mixing with the dressing.

To reduce onion bite, soak chopped red onion in cold water for 10 minutes before using.

Add the bacon just before serving to prevent it from becoming soggy.
